Study Questions
- What
does it mean for the Pharisees to be sitting in Moses’ seat? In what way
were the Pharisees sitting in Moses’ seat and not the other groups of
Jews? (i.e. Essenes, Sadducees, Zealots etc.)
- What
was Jesus referring to in verse four?
What is the heavy load and in what way were the Pharisees not
willing to lift a finger to move them?
- What
is the meaning behind verses 8 through 10?
Explain them in your own words.
Was Jesus really expecting his disciples to stop calling their
earthly fathers father?
Discussion Questions
- In
what ways are unnecessary burdens being placed upon Christians today?
- How do
we determine what actions we ought to enforce in the church if it is not
explicitly prohibited in scripture?
- In
what areas of your life do you have the most difficult time being humble
and serving?

| As some of you know Esther and I took the kids camping this week (along with the Yi family). While we were there--Zachary began to dig a huge hole on the beach. He got so into it that he eventually dug a hole deeper than his own height. I told him that that's probably the deepest hole that anyone his age has ever dug. He really got a kick out of it. Then he asked me--"Am i going to be famous?" For some reason he thinks if we tell a police officer about the hole--he's gonna be famous. So he asked me to tell officer Joe. Then he asked me to tell the church people about it. I know that this may be encourageing him to brag but he would get a kick out of it if you guys asked him about his deep hole in the sand. Tell him that you heard about it. He dug that hole for several hours non-stop. He did not even stop for a minute. Zachary's such a simple kid....haha. We have pictures but I'm not sure how to post it up. Anyways--it was soo cute seeing him work so hard digging that hole. I wish we had sand in our back yard to keep him busy like that sometimes. Thanks church for reading and thanks ahead of time for playing along..........

| To say that what happened this week in Virginia was tragic would be an understatement. It seems like the whole nation maybe even the whole world has been rocked by one young man's violent rampage at Virginia Tech University. When tragic things like this happen we are shocked into facing the reality of what we have always believed---that , "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Many of you may remember the day we heard on the news of the Columbine shooting or the terrorist crashing of the two planes into the twin towers...how it rocked everyone then too. But soon enough--the world went back to work the next day. Eventually people began to play baseball, watched movies and went on with their daily lives as usual. Why does it take tragedy for us to face the reality of what the bible is constantly warning us about? What scares me is not these violent episodes but the day to day deception that the world has learned to function under. Everyone knows that death is coming. We may not know how we will die but at the appointed time we will all die. Yet the world lives day to day secretly thinking and hoping that it won't happen to them. It is insane how we so easily allow ourselves to live like we will be here forever. What happened today is tragic. But what happens everyday in this world is equally tragic.
Many will be asking--"Why did God allow this to happen?" "Where is God in all of this?"
I think sometimes that any conversation about God is better than simply ignoring God........... Let's pray and make the most of every opportunity....................

| The passion week was a very hectic week but it was a great reminder of the fundamentals of our faith. This past Easter Sunday we had our largest church attendance. We had over 220 people (including children) for our Sunday worship. We had over 30 guests and another 20 returning guests from previous visits. It was a great opportunity for non-Christians to hear the gospel and for our church members to initiate conversations about Christ in their work places and at home. It was encouraging to see so many of our members taking initiative to share the gospel with their family and friends.
As Paul says some plant and some will water but in the end it's God who will make it grow.
Isa 55:10-11 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Share with us how the follow up is going........

| Matt 27:19-26
19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge's seat, his wife sent him this message: "Don't have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him." 20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. 21 "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" asked the governor. "Barabbas," they answered. 22 "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" Pilate asked. They all answered, "Crucify him!" 23 "Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!" 24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!" 25 All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" 26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
According to biblical records--Jesus was hung on the cross 9a.m. Friday morning. At 3p.m. the soldiers reported back that Jesus was no longer living.
